Last week we looked in Judges 6 at the call of Gideon to be a man of valor that would help deliver Israel. This Sunday we continue looking at Gideon’s life and the unconventional methods of warfare God had him use to defeat the Midianites. While Gideon was involved in a physical battle, the battle he faced was first and foremost a spiritual battle. Therefore, God had Gideon do some unconventional things that led to a great victory for the Glory of God. The account of Gideon not only shows the amazing power of God but serves as a great example of how the physical, natural battles of life are always fueled by spiritual forces for spiritual outcomes. 

We all have battles we are dealing with. Can you relate to some of these: Health, finances, relationships, politics, your past, your future. What we fail to recognize is that like Gideon’s battle with the Midianites, ours too is a spiritual battle before it is a physical, real-world battle.  When we fail to see the spiritual nature of the battles we are in, we also fail to use the correct strategy to engage in the battle that will bring a victorious outcome.  For that matter, we don’t really understand what a victory even looks like. Like Gideon, to have the victory we need we must be willing to approach the battles of life differently than the rest of the world does.
