Pastor Andrew's blog

I’m known as The Beach Church Preacher and I love the beach. I’m in the ocean water almost all year and as a result, I get salty from the salt water. But I’m the Salty Preacher because I seek to season the world around us with biblical truth. In this blog I share sermon previews, sermon summaries and other reflections on world events from a biblical perspective. I hope that as you read my blog you experience more of the amazing flavor of God’s Word in your life.

As we consider the various ministry aspects of our church, we could look at many points of blessing:

Being able to hold our Beach Church service every week in a public atmosphere and the people it reaches. We witness the regular occurrence of baptisms.Having children and young families engaging in our church gives us hope for the future. The facilities we have for our ministry. The way the Lord has provided financially for the ministry. The engagement we have in missions both l...

Finding Freedom From Your Past / John 4

Series: Seeking and Finding

Kure Beach FBC – August 30th, 2026

Rev. Andrew J. Matthews

Many people carry the weight of their past like a sentence that never ends. Whether it's past failures, broken relationships, or habits that won't let go, the feeling of being trapped is real. But Jesus offers something different. The story of the woman at the well in John chapter 4 shows us that true freedom is possible, and it starts with drinking f

Having a sense of purpose is one of the most important aspects of human flourishing. Having a purpose is what gives us a drive to push on through difficult times and have hope for the future. Hitching your purpose to the wrong thing will be devastating when that reality becomes apparent.

In Luke 19 we meet a guy named Zacheus who was a man of purpose but was living for the wrong kind of purpose. Zacheus pursued the purpose of wealth and comfort, only to find that it left h

What Jesus Says About Worry and Seeking God First

Worry has a way of creeping into every corner of life. Whether it is fear about finances, health, relationships, or the future, anxiety can become all-consuming. In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus gives us a clear and practical path out of that cycle. It is not complicated, but it does require a daily decision.

What Does the Bible Say About Anxiety?

The passage opens with a dir

At Camp Impact this Summer campers had to memorize a verse each week to get points for their team. One preschool girl was very proud she had memorized that week’s verse which she confidently announced was “Maffu six firty free” (Matthew 6:33). That made quite an impression on me. Matthew 6:33 should make an impression on everyone as one of the most important verses in all of Scripture: “Seek first the Kingdom of God . . .”

The context of that command is something we all dea

Sermon Recap - Finding the Right Object of Your Faith.

  Sermon Audio

Faith is something every person practices, whether they realize it or not. But when it comes to the deepest need of the human soul, the question is not whether you have enough faith. The question is where you are placing it.

What Is Faith, Really?

Webster's defines faith as "complete trust or confidence in someone or something." We exercise faith constantly. You sat down in a chair today trusting it would

Have you ever thought of another person as being “A real person of faith?” When we say that we usually mean they are a person of strong Christian virtue that is evident in how they live. I would suggest to you that everyone is a person of faith, but it’s the object of that faith that is the difference in the evidence produced from that person’s life. Jesus taught that even a very small faith, the size of a mustard seed, could move mountains. I have met many followers of Is

HOW TO FIND REAL TREASURE:

What Two Parables Teach Us About What Truly Matters

Jesus told two short parables in Matthew 13 that pack a powerful truth. A man stumbles upon buried treasure in a field. A merchant finds a pearl of extraordinary value. Both of them sell everything they have to obtain what they found. These stories are not about financial investment strategies. They are about something far more valuable: spiritual treasure.

Some of the best stories that have been written are about the discovery of a hidden treasure. Treasure Island was one of my favorite books when I was growing up. That book inspired many adventures I would have with my friends pretending to look for a buried treasure. And you know that X always marked the spot.

In 2014 Sue and I had the privilege of visiting Xi’An China where the Terracotta Warriors are being excavated.  The Terracotta Warriors are considered an architectura

Who Am I? How to Find Your True Identity in Jesus Christ

One of the deepest questions every person wrestles with is this: Who am I? Identity is something we spend our entire lives searching for, and yet many people never truly find it. Matthew 16:21-28 speaks directly to this search and offers a clear, life-changing answer.

Why Do We Struggle So Much With Identity?

From the time we are children, we find our identity through association. We are known by our parents, our siblin

This is week 2 in our series “Seeking and Finding”. In Matthew 16 Jesus is completing a period of traveling above the Sea of Galilee in the northern part of Israel and now begins his journey to Jerusalem in the south for what He knows will be His time of passion at the crucifixion. Jesus knows His time with the disciples is short and he wants to be sure they understand what lies ahead and what being His disciple will require in the future.  Jesus told them he would go to J

SEEKING AND FINDING: HOW TO FIND THE WAY?

What Jesus Says About Our Deepest Needs and the Narrow Gate

Every person is searching for something. Whether we admit it or not, we all have needs that drive us to seek answers, meaning, and fulfillment. Jesus addressed this directly in one of His most well-known teachings, and what He said is both challenging and deeply freeing.

 Why Are We All Searching?

From the moment we are born, we are seeking. A newborn searches for nourishme

This Sunday I am starting a new sermon series titled “Seeking and Finding.” Throughout the teaching of Jesus, He frequently presented scenarios  where a person was seeking for something and eventually finding something, applying the situation to the spiritual life. Jesus did this because there is a need within every human that causes us to seek for something to meet that need. The teaching of Jesus shows us the way to find what we are seeking for. The question is, will we

The Foundation of The American Dream

The American Dream is one of the most familiar phrases used to describe the blessings of life in this country. While the idea of dreaming for a better future has long been woven into the fabric of our nation, the phrase became widely known after James Truslow Adams used it in his 1931 book, The Epic of America, to describe the hope of America.

Hope is woven into the DNA of this nation. From the first settlers to today’s entrepreneurs to t
