This Saturday is the 250th anniversary of our country, a day Americans will celebrate and reflect on the history of our nation. The history of our nation tells a story of our freedoms being tied to a Christian faith in the God of the Bible, and Sunday I will conclude the sermons series we have been doing to celebrate the 250 years of Faith and Freedom of the United States. Over the last few weeks, we have a taken look into the history of our nation, but in this last message we will turn our direction to the future of our country. What will the America of tomorrow be like? What does it need to be like?
While America is not being physically threatened on our soil by another nation and their army, our nation faces threats of a spiritual nature. A few weeks ago, we traced the history of Revivals in America and the significance they played in critical times of our nation’s development. To confront the greatest threats to our nation currently, it is not a physical, military Army we need, but a spiritual one. We need a response that will begin with a revival of the hearts of Americans back to God to address the current and future needs of our nation.
To guide us in this response on Sunday we are going to work through Psalm 85. In my Bible it is titled “Revive Us Again.” This is a Psalm of confession for collective sin, followed by a desire to hear a new message from God. While God himself is unchanging, God often reframes His message, so it is understood by different cultures and generation. What is God saying to Americans today? What does God desire for the future of America? How can we be part of bringing our nation back to hearing the voice of God to receive His salvation? From this amazing Psalm we will see a path God has laid that people can follow to come back to Him, for God’s glory and our blessing. Make attending one of our services this Sunday part of your Independence Day Weekend Celebration as we celebrate 250 years of Faith and Freedom!
