North Carolina’s Favorite Son

For this sermon series I’m doing on the 250th anniversary of our nation, considering our state was one of the original states, I thought it would be good to devote one message to our State’s influence over the life of our nation. I decided to go down the path of NC most influential person. After doing an internet search I found these results:

•    For Public Service – Governor Jim Hunt. A four-term governor.

•    Social and Civil Right - Ella Baker was NC’s leader and difference maker.

•    Sports – Wilmington’s own Michael Jordan brought an international appeal to Basketball, the Nike brand and now NASCAR.

•    For Global Impact – Evangelist, Dr. Billy Graham. From simple roots from Charlotte God used him as an adviser to presidents and have global influence of the gospel unlike any other person before or since. 

With no disrespect to the others mentioned above, Billy Graham is the most influential person in the history of North Carolina. In 2013 Dr. Billy Graham was given the honor of North Carolina’s Favorite Son and has had a global influence that continues today. Sunday I will review the milestones of this remarkable man’s life, marking the many ways God has used him for the growth of the kingdom. I will also preach a short message from his favorite passage to preach from; John 3:16. As we celebrate 250 years of faith and freedom it is important to see that God has used people that are surrendered to him to bless this nation. Billy Graham is one man that God has used to bring untold blessing to this nation. Who will be a person like Dr. Graham, surrendered to God, and used by God for the blessing of our nation. Will you pray for God to call another Billy Graham to bless our land with the unvarnished preaching of God’s Word.
