At Camp Impact this Summer campers had to memorize a verse each week to get points for their team. One preschool girl was very proud she had memorized that week’s verse which she confidently announced was “Maffu six firty free” (Matthew 6:33). That made quite an impression on me. Matthew 6:33 should make an impression on everyone as one of the most important verses in all of Scripture: “Seek first the Kingdom of God . . .”
The context of that command is something we all deal with: Anxiety. In this passage, before Jesus commanded us to seek the kingdom, he commands us to not be anxious. He doesn’t say “if” you are anxious; He knows we all deal with anxiety to different degrees. Worry and anxiety rob people of inner peace and the joy that God promises those who seek His kingdom. When we seek first the Kingdom of God we not only have an inner peace, but we also become more effective in our witness as Christians. Join me this Sunday as we consider this important verse and find freedom from worry.
